At the centre of our VISIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY film series on the key topics of climate, resources and well-being at the Harmonie Kino Freiburg is the encouragement of a culture of sustainability that comes into people’s lives in their daily feelings, thoughts and actions. For us, this is based on an understanding of sustainability that places global, intergenerational justice at the centre of our actions.

We want to understand how viewers react to the innovative impulses of individual films, how they reflect on their personal circumstances and where they perceive obstacles to implementation. We would therefore like as many of you as possible to actively participate in the film series, the accompanying workshops and excursions at the Volkshochschule Freiburg (an adult education center) and our transdisciplinary research.

There will be many opportunities to get involved in our project. As the film series does not start until October 22, we will be announcing these opportunities gradually here on the website. Here is an overview in advance:

• With the start of our first film series on the topic of climate proctection on 22 October 2024, you are invited to our screenings followed by expert discussions at the Harmonie Kino Freiburg and the accompanying events at the vhs. Admission to all screenings is free, registration is required. You can register for all films here at the vhs.
• You can already suggest films for our subsequent film series on the topics of resources (spring semester 2025) and well-being (winter semester 2025-26)
• Would you like to play an active role in our research? From October you can, for example
  • Fill in the short questionnaires we will be distributing at every film screening and workshop as well as a few days after the event (questionnaires are in German for now)
  • Keep a long-term film journal about the films we show and your thoughts and actions related to them
  • Take part in one of our workshops (all in German)
  • Share a film on a sustainability topic that has touched or influenced you in our blog or newsletter.
• The Visions of Sustainability research team will also offer an introductory workshop as well as a concluding workshop at the beginning and end of the film series on climate proctection. In these workshops, we will present our research questions and methods as well as our preliminary results and discuss them with participants. Both of these participatory workshops will be held in German and take place at the vhs. You can register for them here.
• There will also be other opportunities to give feedback on the program and our research.
