With the film Unser Boden, Unser Erbe, this Tuesday marked the successful launch of the second film series of VISIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY, focused on the theme of resources.

Despite the sunny 20°C weather, we were pleased to welcome a full audience at the Harmonie Cinema for the opening film by director Marc Uhlig. Unser Boden, Unser Erbe highlights the vital importance of soil for our lives. Through interviews with individuals such as Sarah Wiener and Stefan Schwarzer, the film portrays the precarious state of agricultural soils in Germany. Organic farmers like Achim Heitmann also provide insight into the everyday challenges that climate change poses for agriculture, and offer ideas on what our soils need to remain viable for agriculture in the future.

Discussion with Florian Binder from the Lindenbrunnenhof

The film was followed by a public discussion with organic farmer Florian Binder from the Lindenbrunnenhof, focusing on sustainable agriculture in the local region. Having grown up on the farm in Forchheim, Kaiserstuhl, Binder was able to share firsthand knowledge of the farm’s ecological practices. The Lindenbrunnenhof has been a member of the Bioland Association for over a decade. Binder supplemented what was shown in the film with his own experiences and expertise. He encouraged guests to think more critically about the origins and cultivation methods of the vegetables they buy at local markets.

Follow-up event at the Lindenbrunnenhof

The Lindenbrunnenhof in Forchheim will also host our upcoming field trip, “Nachhaltige Kreislaufwirtschft: Betriebsbesichtigung LINDENBRUNNENHOF” on May 13, 2025, in cooperation with the Volkshochschule (VHS) and the Nutrition Council. Participants will have the opportunity to directly experience and discuss the ecological agriculture concepts shown in the film. There are still spots available – registration through the VHS is required.

These film events and workshops are part of VISIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY, an inter- and transdisciplinary research project funded by the Innovation Sustainability Campus (ICN), located at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Non-university cooperation partners include Harmonie Kino, the Volkshochschule Freiburg and Greenmotions. The Freiburg environmental mayor Christine Buchheit has take on the patronage of the project.
